This action led to an uncontrolled descent, which caused the helicopter to crash in a wooded area near thesmall airport. In addition, the NTSB found the maintenance crew’s failure to rig the throttle control assembly before the flight also contributed to the fatal crash.

Troy was taken too soon, but we felt his dreams and dedication to helping others needed to continue. He was very passionate about our military and their families, about those in need to provide for their children, cancer research, and the continuation of music education.”

On the second anniversray of Troy’s passing, the official Montgomery Gentry Facebook page shared the following message:

“T-Roy, it’s been two years today since we’ve seen that smile, heard that laugh and sang those songs-this picture greets us every day we put on a show-we keep it in the right side of the backline cart, near Franks amp (I know-it’s really loud, sorry about that). The outpouring of love for you never stops, it constantly refreshes us and fills our hearts with joy to know you made such a difference in peoples lives-especially your family at home and your family out on the road. We will be together again one day-until then, thank you for being a light in our world, thank you for being a big brother to us all, and thank you for the time we had.
The love you left is timeless-
We miss you.”
