I started growing cucumbers on a trellis several years ago, and I’ll never go back. It looks amazing, and is a huge space saver!
There are tons of different cucumber trellises that you could build or buy for your garden. But what you’ll love about these is that they are all very unique.

Different Types Of Cucumber Trellises
I’ve used a variety of vertical gardening systems for my cucumbers, mostly different types of trellises I had laying around.
If you’re not ambitious enough to make your own, you can buy some pretty cool cucumber trellises too. They come in different sizes (medium, large trellis, and deluxe) so you can find the perfect size for your garden.
What Type Of Trellis Is Best For Cucumbers?
The best type of trellis for cucumbers is one that is tall and sturdy, and will be able to support the weight of the heavy fruits as they mature.
It should be tall enough so they have plenty of space to either go up as high as they need to, or they can creep over the top. One that is 4-6′ high is a good range, but it certainly can be taller.
The final decision is up to you and the style of your garden. It can be purely functional, or used as a focal point.

1. A-frame Trellis For Cucumbers
This a-frame trellis is the perfect size for smaller cucumber vines, and it will give you extra space below to plant something else.
The vines will cross over the top when they get long enough, creating a lush and full canopy.
2. Cattle Panel Cucumber Trellis
This large arch tunnel trellis design adds a fantastic architectural element to the garden, and can be used for cucumbers. Once they get tall enough, they’ll meet at the top to really fill it in.

3. Classic Obelisk Support
If you’re looking for something to add interest and structure to your veggie garden, then this beautiful obelisk is for you. This is my version of the classic form, and I designed it to be very solid.
This elegant cucumber trellis is six feet tall, and extremely sturdy. Train a few vines to cover it, while the others pool around the bottom for an even more dramatic effect.
4. Large Wood Cucumber Trellis
If you have a huge blank wall to cover or a big empty spot to fill, then these large wooden trellises would be perfect for your cucumbers.
I designed these to take up space, and look gorgeous too. Build a few and line them up side by side to create a beautiful backdrop for your garden, or to create privacy.
5. Space-Saving Cucumber Archway
Another arch design, this one is medium sized, and a great space saver. It’s strong enough to easily support the weight of vines heavy with fruit, but simple enough to make with materials you can find at any home improvement store.

6. Metal Cucumber Fan Trellis
A fan trellis is about as basic as it gets, but this metal and wood one is much nicer and more unique than anything you could find in a store.
This versatile trellis is the perfect size to put along the side of a house, shed or fence, and strong enough for your cucumbers to climb up.

7. Medium-Sized Cuke Arbor
This is my version of the classic arbor design, and it is a great size for any garden. Cucumbers will grab onto the lattice trellis on the sides, and eventually make their way up to the top.
If the vines make it over the top, the ripe fruits will hang down. However, you may need to grab a step stool or ladder to reach them, so keep that in mind.
8. Easy Small Cucumber Arch Trellis
What I love about this small cucumber trellis design is that it’s very simple to build, and looks great too. Plus the ripe fruits will hang down, which is pretty darn cool too.

9. Large Cucumber Teepee Fort
This large teepee fort trellis is a fun place for kids to hide out, play, and grab a snack of fresh cucumbers whenever they want.
To add more variety to the mix, you could interplant this with another vining crop that is also popular with the kiddos.
10. Upcycled Cucumber Fan Trellis
Give rusty or broken old gardening tools new life with this adorable project. You can use any type of long handled garden tools that you want.
Find an old hoe, rake, shovel, or whatever you have available to you. Inexpensive used ones are easy to find at yard sales, antique markets, or even your local thrift store.

If you’re looking for a cute little cucumber trellis that doesn’t take up much space, but is extremely strong and sturdy, this is another great option.

I designed this next one to not only look beautiful when it’s covered in vines, but also standing on its own during the off-season.
The copper pipe frame creates a sturdy base, and this trellis is big enough to handle your cucumbers with ease. It will also naturally patina with age, giving it even more character.
