How everything started
Establishment of the Welcome Center in Ostwürttemberg
The Ministry of Economic Affairs had financed ten Welcome Centres across the state by 2020 - from Lake Constance to the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region - covering almost the whole of Baden-Württemberg. In the region of East Württemberg, the Ministry of Economic Affairs funded the successful model project "Welcome Office for International Students in East Württemberg (WISO)", coordinated by Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The "WISO" project had already implemented successful measures to approach international students and attract them to the regional labour market. Building on the achievements of this model project, the aim was to use this wealth of knowledge and experience to establish a fully-fledged Welcome Center in the East Württemberg region.
"Our Welcome Centers provide important support for international professionals and our companies. The region of Ostwürttemberg will also be strengthened by a Welcome Center," said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Minister for Economic Affairs.
The Welcome Center Ostwürttemberg opened its doors to international professionals and companies in the summer of 2020. It supports people with a migration background in all matters relating to working and living in Ostwürttemberg. It provides initial guidance and orientation. It also supports companies and human resources managers in all matters relating to the recruitment and successful integration of international professionals.
The Welcome Centre Ostwürttemberg is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism and supported by the Ostalbkreis district, the Heidenheim district and the cities of Aalen, Ellwangen, Giengen, Heidenheim, Schwäbisch Gmünd, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce East Wuerttemberg and the Chamber of Crafts Ulm.
