Is there free parking at the University of Minnesota? ›

University parking meters are free on University holidays (except events). Individuals with a state-issued disability permit or license plate may park free at campus meters for a maximum of three hours (except at one-hour-limit locations - Northrop, Coffman, Mariucci and McNamara).

Off-Peak Contract Parking hours are 4:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday – Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, and on official University holidays. Students, faculty, and staff with 24/7 parking contracts may park at one of 15 facilities during Off-Peak Contract Parking hours if space is available.

Transit Services

Metro Transit provides city bus schedules online or you can call 612-373-3333 to talk to a transit expert.

Except when event rates are in effect, campus parking is complimentary in unrestricted lots and non-gated facilities from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. on weekdays, from noon on Saturdays until 6 a.m. on Monday and on University holidays.

Pay Parking is enforced in pay lots and on-street meters daily, including holidays.

UTP costs $45 per semester/$90 per year, including summer. It is part of the Transportation & Safety Fee. Students who opt into the UTP will be billed for their pass.

All campus buses are free, accessible, and equipped with bike racks.

Activation instructions

Tap your U Card at a permanent Go-To reader located to the right of the farebox on a bus or at a Metro line station. On-campus activation stations are also located at the Welcome Desks in Coffman Memorial Union and St. Paul Student Center.

How do you pay for parking at Western University? ›

Accepted Forms of payment at Western Parking gates – Amex, MasterCard and Visa. Customers utilizing visitor parking spaces are expected to have an acceptable method of payment. Customers wishing to pay by coin should use the Pay and Display machines located across campus.

Upper West Side

Metered parking is limited, but free street parking is available on most streets between Central Park West and Riverside Park.

North Star Promise Scholarship

This is Minnesota's new free college program. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must: Be a Minnesota resident. Have a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) as reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Minnesota Dream Act Application below $80,000.

Parking garages

Unless otherwise posted, parking is free in the garages beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Parking & Transportation

The recommended single game parking areas are Lot 37 and the 4th Street Parking Ramp. View map of parking areas around Williams Arena. Season parking is available to season ticket holders in the following areas.

Students may park in any visitor or student areas. Staff parking areas require a district staff permit. Student parking fees have been suspended for the Summer 2023, Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.
