When is move-in? Move-In takes place over 4 days, prior to the start of the academic year. For the 2024-2025 academic year, move-in is Wednesday, September 18 - Saturday, September 21, 2024. You will be assigned a specific date and time in late August (depending on what building you are in).

Housing Services has the ability to assign students of different genders to the same room, in gender inclusive housing, upon request. Students interested in gender inclusive housing should indicate their interest within the housing application.

The housing application is open and can be accessed through the online application portal opens a new window. If you would like to be considered for a housing offer for the 2021-22 academic year, you must submit your application by June 8, 2021. Offers are not issued on a first come, first served basis.

While the specific cost of board at UCLA differs based on the exact building and room that you choose, you're probably going to get more bang for your buck with UCLA off-campus housing.

Parking During Move-In

On official move in days only, you will park either in designated temporary loading and unloading spaces or in the building parking garage if you have purchased an assigned parking space. There is a limit of 2 hours for parking in designated active loading/unloading zones per truck/driver.

Student family housing is reserved for married students, single parents, domestic partners, and families only.

UCLA College Dorms: An Overview

While most first-years live in the on-campus dorms, collectively referred to as the Hill, they are not required to do so. Living in the apartments or commuting are also feasible housing options.

All freshmen have been offered triples. We did have double rooms listed in the application, but due to space availability at the time of offers, all freshmen were offered a triple.

Studies show that students who live on campus perform better academically, have more contact with faculty, and are happier with their college experience than students who commute. Students can choose from several on-campus housing options, all of which encourage discovery and emphasize community.

East of the 405, students may find rooms to rent. Apartments are clustered near Santa Monica and Olympic Boulevards. The area west of the 405 is popular with students. It has many small apartments, slightly less expensive than those in Westwood, and good bus access to campus along Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevard.

11 Premier

This plan provides the same flexibility as the 19 Premier and 14 Premier, but it is designed for residents who generally only eat one or two meals per day. The same carry-over privilege with 19 Premier and 14 Premier also applies to 11 Premier.

Roommate Matching

Students will be matched with the person(s) that best match the preferences lists. Students may update these preferences from the time their application is submitted until the housing offer is issued, by visiting the My Housing web site and clicking on the Application link.

Closest to Campus: The communities closest to UCLA include Westwood, West Los Angeles, Brentwood, Bel Air, Rancho Park, Santa Monica, and Pacific Palisades. East of Campus: The communities to the east of UCLA include Beverly Hills, Century City, Pico-Robertson, and West Hollywood.

All on-campus housing buildings are coed and within walking distance to classrooms. New freshman and transfer students who are admitted for fall quarter and apply on time are guaranteed housing.

Other schools that allow men and women to room together include the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Riverside, Stanford, Humboldt State and the University of Oregon. The University of California, Davis, officials said they will research the option in the coming year.

Most colleges have one girls-only dorm. Otherwise, yes, for the most part they share. If each room or suite has its own bathroom, males and females may share the same floor. Some colleges have the girls' bathroom on one end of the building and boys on the other, and other colleges separate boys and girls by floor.

In total, approximately 50 schools in the U.S. are currently allowing men and women to room together, though participation is still fairly low. The movement started as a way to better serve some gay, bisexual or transgender students who may prefer to live with a member of the opposite sex.
